NEW FLAVOUR | CLAYTON ROX
The way I feel about surfboards is kinda how most girls feel about shoes. Before I bought this Clayton Rox I obsessed over which board I should get for weeks (months actually) and asked everyone that cared to get involved for their advice. I only started short boarding two years ago (even though I've been surfing for 15 years now), so I feel like I'm not really qualified to make such an important decision by myself... so what I do is describe what I'm looking for to various people and they tell me from their experience (or inexperience haha!) what I should go for.
My first board was a 6"0 Clayton Swivel that went a long way in improving my surfing (wide nose, lots of volume, easy paddling and super stable), but this time around I was looking for something that would allow me to do something other than a roundhouse cutback (I want to do nice tight turns that are right in the pocket, though I'm not sure how yet ;) I've got quite a girly figure (think wide hips and narrow shoulders, and pretty much no upper body strength) so I also needed something that wasn't too much of a toothpick so I can paddle okay still.
Clayton is pretty much my go-to for boards (I even have a Clayton longboard) because their just guaranteed to go well and when you're earning an entry level salary (haha) you need to be 100% sure. I've had my eyes on the Clayton Rox since the time my friend Mike spent a glorious week with it (after which it snapped haha!) and he still waxes lyrical about the board. My boyfriend was certain this was the only board for me. I spent another few weeks mulling over whether I should get a 5"10, 5"11, or 6"0 and finally decided to go for the 6"0.
I woke up early this morning feeling sick to the core with excitement and went straight down to the surf store as soon as it opened (the build-up to this purchase was unreal hahaha). I was planning on trading in an old board to reduce the price but apparently it's worth a pittance (??) so I decided I would get more utility out of using it. I spent the whole morning at the store choosing the grip, leash, putting in the fins, thinking about what suit I would purchase next to match my board (true story - I'm definitely not a tomboy!). Eventually I proudly walked my board home - I haven't surfed it yet but I'll be sure to let you know how it goes. Have a sweet week y'all!
On a side note, I also snuck in this beanie from Vans - I don't really dress like a surfer, but right now I'm crazy about olive green everything and my next move kind of might be these shoes!
